Depressing songs

A newspaper article I read recently listed what were supposedly the 25 most depressing songs of all time. Yeah right. Clearly that person didn’t grow up during the ’90s grunge era.

A few that were missed:

“Forget Her”, “Last Goodbye”, or “Lover, You Should’ve Come Over” by Jeff Buckley. Comparing lost loves to rain falling during a funeral - very depressing, but perhaps not so much as knowing that the ultra talented Jeff drowned in the Mississippi after only one album.

Anything from Magic Dirt’s “Friends In Danger” album, although particularly “Bodysnatcher”, a brooding song about pedophilia. Highly uncomfortable listening.

“Disarm” or “1979″ by Smashing Pumpkins, or anything else by the Smashing Pumpkins.

“Doll Parts”, by Hole. “Someday you will ache like I ache” indeed.

Also anything by Radiohead or Nick Cave, but I’ll stop there. This post is getting a bit long. Ah well.
