The Journal cafe at 251 Flinders Lane is so good, it makes me feel like a 14-year-old girl at a Beatles concert, back in the 60s

My brother Mat had told me about the City Library, and about the Journal café which is there, and how you can borrow books and then read them in the café, kind of like a Borders for people with no money. I went there, and thought “Big deal. It’s a library. So what?” I left without trying the café. More fool me.

I went back there recently, to check out the Journal café, and I looked and I saw that it was good. They have jazz music playing, sometimes live bands. They have National Geographic magazines and encyclopaedias above the tables on shelves. It all has this vibe about it, groovy baby yeah! But how is the coffee?

I ordered a strong latte as I normally do. A few minutes it was brought to my table. First impression: looks good, and quite strong. Awesome. Further inspection revealed it had a creamy top of the kind that only the best lattes have. I am pleased to report that the coffee tasted as good as it looks.

They brought out a glass of water to accompany the coffee, without me asking. Nice touch. Doesn’t sound like much, but less than ten percent of cafes do this. It helps, due to the diuretic effects of coffee.

I have been going to new cafes in order to review them, but it will be hard, very hard, to continue doing this when I could just go to Journal.

To summarise: Go there. Now.

Also, next batch of five word reviews coming soonish.
