I wanted to take a break from the coffee posts for a bit, and Pete has invited (challenged?) me to share five things about myself you may not know. In the general spirit of chumminess that that represents, I have decided to respond. As follows:
1. I used to tell everyone that I had a second sister called Leanne, that we kept locked up in the attic because she was mentally disturbed, violent and thus dangerous. I managed to con two people into actually believing this.
2. When I was younger (teenage years), when someone asked how old I was I would reply “27”. This stopped being funny several years ago.
3. A workmate of mine, a man in his 20s, is a disturbingly big fan of the Gilmore Girls. He owns six different series on DVD and recently while on night shift would bring them in and watch them on his laptop. Since I was on shift at the same time and had nothing better to do, I started watching it with him. I never used to like Gilmore Girls as the main character, Lorelai, is neurotic and annoying. After two episodes at work, however, I started to enjoy it. As a result, I am now a fan of the Gilmore Girls. Oh, the shame.
4. I moved to Melbourne at the end of 1994. Since then, I have moved house seven times, for a total of eight houses and seven suburbs in the last twelve years. I expect to be moving again in a few months’ time.
5. As part of a “Who Dares Wins” theme night at the church youth group, I managed to coax a girl into eating dog food; the canned, wet variety. Marlene, should you ever read this, you are my Pal and my Chum forever.
There you are. I am also meant to “tag” five people. (Oh, the immaturity.) Mat, Jon, Mark, David, and Tim, you’re it. Time to confess!

No. Serious shudders at 3! That is so disturbing on so many levels.
I was there for the dogfood episode. One of my fondest memories.
Good blog mate.

Once Triple J had a contest where people called in to guess how many words there were in a 20 second segment of the Gilmore Girls that they had recorded.
20 seconds. How many words?
Answer tomorrow.

I’ve only ever watched the pilot of Gilmore Girls, and I did not continue with the series for reasons similar to the ones you described. Does this mean that I could get sucked into watching it as well? I must maintain constant vigilance!
Did Marlene say anything about what eating dog food is like? I’ve always imagined it was similar to really thick, meaty Dinty Moore Beef Stew, but I’ve never had the courage to try it. That’s what dares are for.

Right after eating it, she immediately dashed to the toilet. Always a bad sign, that. She said it was disgusting; I think that’s about as specific as she got.
