I’ve been meaning to do some cafe reviews in Balaclava, because every time I go there, the coffee is freaken’ awesome! Finally the other day I did, and tried Gattica for the first time. Gattica (motto: “We Dropped An ‘A’”) is so good I could just about copy and paste my comments about the Journal cafe, and I quite liked the Journal. I shall return. Repeatedly.
Read on for reviews of Balaclava cafes and those of other places:
Red Café, cnr Royal Pde and Walker St, Parkville
From memory, this is OK
Chapelino, Chapel St, Prahran
No worries. Decent coffee here.
Amici, Chapel St, Prahran
Good stuff. I’ll be back.
Red Terrace, 492 St Kilda Rd
I remember enjoying the coffee
Gattica, Carlisle St, Balaclava
Latte awesome. Excellent mocha too.
Coffee Company, Carlisle St, Balaclava
That aroma! Very good coffee.
Moka, Carlisle St, Balaclava
Decent coffee, but nothing spectacular
From Steve:
St. Ali Cafe, Yarra Place (near Clarendon St), South Melbourne
Roast own Coffee… Must Try!
Hadn’t heard of that one Steve, so I did a Google search, and there are loads of people raving about it. I’ll have to check it out.
From Tim:
Green Olive Cafe, Bath Lane, Bendigo
Service, atmosphere, coffee all fantastic.
Now, another one of those newfangled chocolate cafes:
Koko Black, Chadstone and other places
Very nice, but very pricey
Check out the main list. There’s 120 reviews on there.
Can anyone tell me why so many cafes are named “Red Cafe” or “Red Terrace” or something else involving the colour red, while none are named “Yellow Cafe”? What’s going on?
