I was watching Rage the other night. They were covering 1992-1996 as part of their series of anniversary specials. All very nice, because that was the time period in which I first got into music. Clips I saw included Nirvana, Magic Dirt, Veruca Salt, Beastie Boys and Beck. Sweet!
As well as those, they played “Miss World” by Hole, Courtney Love’s band. Now, Courtney Love was (and is) a unique individual. If you were to describe her, the first word to mind wouldn’t be “stable”, nor would it be “level headed”. This, as you can imagine, definitely came across in Hole’s music.
Consider the following lyrics:
I’m Miss World
Somebody kill me
Kill me pills
Nobody cares my friend
Depressing lyrics are hardly a novelty then or now, yet Courtney Love delivers them in a way that today’s emo kids could scarcely dream of. When Courtney sings the above lyrics, you get the impression she could top herself at any moment.
I’m astonished she’s still alive.

Of course she’s still around. Ya can’t really make a career out of feeling suicidal unless you stay around to receive the cheques…

SaRz’s comments have been getting rather short of late. The next one will only have one letter. But which one?
