The spiders have been released!

The Google spiders, that is. Most blogs add a “nofollow” tag to URLs in comments, but not this blog! That means that if you leave a comment here, search engines will send trained spiders to follow you home. Just like the critter shown above. Gorgeous.

Markk, that’s a great spider picture, but I have no idea what you are talking about with these Google spiders… will they breed? Do they have any natural predators? What happens when they take over (like the cane toad has)? What about the children? Who’ll think of the children?!?!?!

No word verification required here, I have Akismet installed!

Don’t worry about the children, molk. Spiders have hundreds of children at a time, so … oh, wait, that isn’t what you meant, is it?

I used to use Akismet, but switched over to Spam Karma 2 (http://unknowngenius.com/blog/wordpress/spam-karma) a few months ago. I loooove it; much more configurable than Akismet. (Incidentally, did you get the “nofollow” idea from the Ask Shane site? That’s where I picked it up.)

In other news, I’m inordinately pleased that there’s a site devoted to big, hairy spiders. I love the Internet.

Good to hear it! I’ll add you to the list, have fun getting some extra traffic. :)

Thanks for the tip, Cobwebs.

I think there are multiple sites devoted to big hairy spiders, but this one has some great pics.

Thanks, Court.

To everyone else: Court has compiled a huge list of spider-releasing blogs at http://courtneytuttle.com/blogs-that-follow/ and now I’m on it!

for someone with arachnophobia like myself, it’s the worst picture ever. :D I am thinking to remove the follow from comments too, but no clue how…

If you have a wordpress blog, it’s pretty easy. Just install a plugin such as the one at http://blog.taragana.com/index.php/archive/wordpress-15-plugin-strip-nofollow-tag-from-comment-urls/2/
