Hitler and child obesity prevention programs

I recently had a discussion with a work colleague that went something like the following:

Him: “The Government is planning on reducing childhood obesity by giving schoolkids free fruit on Fridays. What they really need is exercise, though.”

Me: “Didn’t the Hitler Youth do that?”

“What, give kids free fruit?”

“No, make them exercise.”

I had managed to tie in childhood obesity prevention programs with Hitler. A proud moment for me, if I do say so myself.

Is it possible to tie any topic of conversation with Hitler? Godwin’s Rule Of Nazi Analogies would suggest so. But there are some topics which would be difficult for this, if not impossible. See if you can connect Hitler to one of these conversation topics:

  1. The upcoming Australian federal election
  2. Global warming
  3. The upcoming presidential primaries in the States
  4. Britney Spears shaving her head
  5. Pet Fashion Week held in New York

This remarkably similar post may provide inspiration.

Speaking of Godwin’s Law, this may amuse you:

Oh–and #2 and #4 are easy.

Crematoria may be a source of global warming, just like those used at concentration camps.

Britney Spears’ shaven pate makes her look rather like the inmates of such camps.

That did amuse me! Love xkcd.

Britney Speers does like a concentration camp inmate with a shaved head, as did Natalie Portman in V For Vendetta. Freaky.

easy for number 1: the greens are nazis

Any election the Nazis usually make an appearance, as in

Howard is like Hitler because he is anti-Asian, plays on fear and tells lies.
Rudd is like Hitler because he tells lies and plays on fear.
Greens are like Hitler because they support euthanasia and experiments on embryos.

You see, Hitler did a lot of things that any politican would be proud of, like:
building great freeways
solving unemployment
building national pride (”aspirational nationalism”?)
challenging unjust treaties
encouraging family values

Just shows us how politica can be dangerous!

Peter, don’t hold back on the Greens. Tell us what you really think!

Jon: Very true. Watching the Nazi propaganda film “Triumph Of The Will” recently, I found it remarkable how little of the rhetoric presented there matched what we mostly remember of Hitler. He didn’t even mention the Jews, and encouraged his audience to be “peace loving and courageous”.
