Sexy coffee?

SaRz, who is a regular around here and also knows me in real life (you know, what you do when you’re away from the computer) was recently at the burgeoning metropolis of Bonny Hills in NSW when she spotted this:

Yes, that sign does say “Sexy Coffee”. I’m not sure that sex and coffee really belong together. It just doesn’t seem to be a natural fit, don’t you agree? I’m sure the proprietors of this shop get a good laugh out of it though. Much like the previously mentioned Sexie Coffee establishment.

But this does give me an excuse to blog about a weird trend that’s hit the U.S. lately: sexy coffee shops! Establishments such as Cowgirls and Sweet Spot have injected some spice – or tackiness, depending on how you look at it – into the market, by having their female staff dress in bikinis or lingerie in order to drum up business.

Sounds like a bad soft porn flick, does it not? They could call it Bikini Cafe, or something. (Not that I’d know or anything.)

Anyway, I know you want a pic so here it is:

Yeah, that’s tasteful. Not.

Sure, I’m a heterosexual male, but I am also a coffee purist. I like the atmosphere and good vibes of a decent cafe, and this is too tasteless and tacky for words. And since I don’t like it, this trend must stop.

Plus, typically these places are drive through only. How many indicators of wrongness does one need?

Hopefully this trend won’t make it to Australia.

I cannot see how any workplace health and safety issues are covered when you are using extremely hot water to make and serve drinks IN A BIKINI!!!

Just not right…

Wow! I think I prefer my baristas fully clothed… then I know they have to get my attention through fine coffee, not flaunting themselves!

Fikalo: Exactly. When I see gimmicks like this, I have no confidence in the coffee.

molk: That’s a very good point, and not one I’d thought of. Operating a coffee machine wouldn’t be the safest thing to do with an ordinary amount of clothing on, let alone in a bikini.

That is absolutely ludicrous. I just don’t see the point, it actually angers me that there are that many women out there that see nothing wrong with putting their bodies on such a tacky display just to drum up business for the establishment they are employed by. Bikini dancers? OK, you get a good amount of money, depending on where you’re located. Bikini baristas? I worked as a barista for over a year and I don’t think so.

Actually I am not surprised to see this. There is a great number of men who wants to see women wearing bikinis at any place and at any time. I think this can spread pretty fast, unless some regulation/law stops it.

Holly, if I was to guess as to why the women do this, perhaps it is because the fact that they have opportunities to do so proves they are attractive, and is thus an ego boost? (Did that make sense?) That would be my guess.

WOW advertising does work…….. I will have to more of it as you sure spread the word far and wide…THANKS……..OH by the way, my girls do not wear bikini’s so when you put a pic in from an overseas coffee place it makes you look silly to imply that SEXY COFFEE girls wear bikini’s. Get it right.

Are you really the owner of Sexy Coffee? If so, rest assured I did not mean to imply that your staff wear bikinis. Instead, a careful reading of the post above reveals sentences like:

“Hopefully this trend won’t make it to Australia.”

Which implies that this trend, erm, hasn’t made it to Australia.

Good luck with the sexy coffee, in any case.

BTW if anyone is interested in checking out Sexy Coffee, it’s not actually at Bonny Hills, but is apparently at the nearby town of Kew, on the Pacific Highway probably.

Hi Mark,

Yes I am the owner and yes we are at KEW NSW on the Mid North Caost.
The Sexy Coffee name came about by wanting to be noticed and hence the colour scheme to go with it.

Oh the photo under Sexy Coffee sure gave me and others the idea that my girls wear bikinis……I consider the girls wearing bikinis at the beach great as for serving coffee in bikinis…………………..

Fair enough. Just so long as you haven’t been bombarded by nuisance customers expecting their coffee to be served by bikini girls as a result of this post …

Ewwwm that’s disgusting. There is so much bacteria… Why do you think nurses no longer wear skirts? eww

Let every one do their thing. If you don’t like you could always go somewhere else. Like hooters.

Well the business has a unique name. I would not complain as long as the workers wash their hands before touching anything. You could be fully clothed but if the workers don’t wash their hands and handle money , or go to the restroom, touch door knobs, touch the telephone, then prepare your food or beverage or coffee, then thats problematic. Believe it or not, a lot of people don’t wash their hands.

With all due respect, I dont see girls in bikinis as being a bad thing ever.

wHOA! thats is really a sexy coffeteria. LOL!

I agree. Girls in bikinis are never a bad thing. Well, maybe sometimes possibly.

Ha, I have never heard of that outlet, but my favourite bean comes from an outlet called Sexie Coffie. They are not selling sex though, just good coffee. They are located just outside of Maryborough Queensland.

Well worth a visit - and definitely not tacky!

This might be difficult to pull off in a colder climate. These drive through outlets are always half open and it would be hard for the girl to stay warm.

Uh, hi to you too, Denish.
